Math, Engineering, and Science Academy (MESA) Charter High School is a community high school in Bushwick, Brooklyn. MESA was founded in August 2013 by co-founders and co-executive directors Arthur Samuels and Pagee Cheung to offer an alternative, non-selective, public high school option to the families of the Bushwick area of Brooklyn.

MESA: South Brooklyn, a replication of MESA's high performing high school in Bushwick, has opened in Southwest Brooklyn on August 18, 2025 with a founding class of 125 9th graders. In time, the school will grow to 500 students across grades 9-12. MESA South Brooklyn will blend the tight-knit family environment, rigorous instruction, and college and career preparation for which MESA is well-known.

MESA: South Brooklyn opened in August 2025, and MESA: East New York will launch in August 2026. Together, our campuses will soon serve 1,500 students across Brooklyn—opening more doors for young people and expanding access to high-quality education.

Math, Engineering, Science Academy (MESA) started its mission of bringing academic excellence and providing a rigorous education to Bushwick in 2013. Since then, we have gained over 900 alumni. Upon graduating, 70% of our graduates have earned at least three college credits, and many have been accepted into competitive universities, interned at industry-leading companies, and traveled the world. We’re thrilled to expand access to high-quality education to East New York families, supporting students as they grow into confident, prepared young adults.
